Finding a litter of F1 Standard Tri-color Bernedoodles with a predicted weight of 60–70 lbs and wavy, silky coats is like finding the “sweet spot” of the breed.
A 60–70 lb dog is often referred to as a “small standard.” They have the sturdy, “huggable” feel of a big dog but are significantly easier to manage than a 90 lb giant.
1. The Wavy & Silky Coat (The “Fleece” Coat)
In an F1 litter, the wavy coat is the most popular because it offers the best of both worlds.
• Low Shedding: While no F1 is 100% hypoallergenic (since they are 50% Bernese), a wavy-coated pup will shed very little compared to a purebred Berner.
• The “Silky” Factor: The silkiness usually comes from the Bernese side. It makes the fur soft and plush rather than wooly or coarse.
• Maintenance: This coat is generally easier to brush than the tight curls of an F1b, but it still requires a professional groom every 6–8 weeks to prevent matting, especially behind the ears and under the legs.
2. Tri-Color (Tti) Markings
“Tri” refers to the traditional “Sennenhund” look:
• Black base with rust/tan points (eyebrows, cheeks, and legs).
• White markings on the muzzle, chest, and paws.
• Note on “Clearing”: Many Bernedoodles carry a “fading gene” from the Poodle side. This means those vibrant rust colors might soften to a creamy tan or silver as they reach their 2-year adult coat.
3. What to Expect at 60–70 lbs
• Presence: At this weight, they are large enough to rest their head on your lap while you’re on the couch, but small enough to fit in the back of most SUVs comfortably.
• Exercise: They will likely be “moderately energetic.” Expect to provide a solid 45-minute walk daily, but they are famous for having an “off switch” indoors where they turn into a rug.
• Temperament: You’re likely looking at a “velcro dog.” They tend to be goofy, sensitive to your emotions, and very gentle with children.
